What is Thync Relax Pro?
Thync Relax Pro is a relaxation device designed to aid in relaxation and sleep without the use of medication. It is ideal for those people who are stressed or anxious and are looking for some relief that is drug free. Thync is also great for those that have trouble getting to sleep and desire a medication free aid.
How Does it work?
This information comes directly form the company’s website: http://www.thync.com/
“Thync Relax Pro uses safe, low level electrical stimulation to activate specific nerve pathways on the head and neck. These pathways communicate with areas in the brain that help control stress levels, mood and sleep quality. Thync Relax Pro delivers carefully constructed stimulation patterns that tap into your body’s own mechanisms to relax, improve mood, and sleep better. Nerve stimulation approaches have been used for decades and have been shown to be safe with substantially lower levels of side effects than pharmaceuticals.”
What’s in the Box?
- Connector for the Pads
- Charging Cable
- Quick Start Guide
- Pod zipper pouch
My Thync arrived packaged in a compact box with all the components listed above. After unboxing the device, I followed the Quick Start guide. I downloaded the Thync app to my phone first, setting up an account on the app. The app offers a small video to help guide you in the placement of the device. The device is to go on the back of your neck, roughly at the shirt line level. I wasn’t sure what it meant by that so I wanted to watch the video. The app crashed every time I tried to watch it. Giving up on the video I decided just to go by the graphic in the quick start guide for placement.
Getting started with the Device
Next, I attached the Connector by simply snapping the two snaps into the corresponding snap holes in the device. After the connector is snapped on I attached the connector pads. This is simple and the guide on the plastic holding the pads aids in placing it correctly to ensure the best connection. These pads stick to your neck to hold the device on. They are sticky and can be used multiple times. If your neck is hairy you may get less uses from each pad. It is not painful to remove the pads even if you do have quite a bit of hair on your neck.
Once I placed the device on my neck I tried both programs but the app crashed every time. So, I put it up for the night. When I checked my email the next morning there was an email from a support person at the Thync company. She said she noticed I was having issues with my device on the app. She laid out a few remedies including updating my iOS. I am notorious for not updating my iOS…why…I don’t know…I just put it off. Updated it and Voilà the app worked without crashing. That was awesome customer service to me!
Deep Relax Program Experience
I tried the Deep Relax program multiple times over the next two weeks. Sometimes when I was a little stressed and sometimes when I was very stressed. What I noticed a little strange feeling in my head and across my face. It was not uncomfortable just strange. I felt a little less stressed after using and maybe just a little more relaxed, but not much.
Deep Sleep Program Experience
I have trouble shutting down my thoughts at night. When I do clear my mind, I tend to just lay there for hours though. I tried the deep sleep program almost every night for 2 weeks. It was AWESOME!!! It is recommended that you stand or sit when using it but I laid on my side or stomach in the bed with the device on. This way I didn’t put pressure on it. I only turned it off myself twice. Every other time I fell asleep with it on. It shut itself off after about 22-24 minutes. I could see the log the next day. I NEVER go to sleep in less 20 minutes, NEVER! It was impressive!!!!
Sometimes I wake in the middle of the night and am awake for 2-3 hours. One night I woke up and could tell within 15 minutes this was one of those times. Putting the device back on, I was curious to see what would happen. I went through the full program and was feeling a little sleepy but not enough to go back to sleep. Turning the program on a second time, I could tell within 10 minutes it was going to work. I took it off about 15 minutes and fell asleep right after.
For me the Deep Sleep program was terrific! I do not take medication to help me sleep and I do not want to. If this describes you then I highly recommend the Thync Relax Pro. The same lady sent me another email about two weeks in to see how it was going with the device. I was impressed with this as well. If you are interested in a drug free relaxation and/or sleep aid then I highly recommend Thync Relax Pro. You can purchase it on their website here: http://www.thync.com/ and you can set up a subscription to receive new connector pads through their different subscription service offers.
The things I feel that would improve it would be more instructions, like a FAQ page on the app or a list of directions. There were very few directions and most came through the app as I was using it. The problem with that though was they were not complete sentences. They were partial ones, like “To get the best effects avoid too many” and that was the end. Too many what? About half of the directions or suggestions on the app were like this. There are no instructions I found for charging it. It should say how long to fully charge or if it can be over charged.
Suggestions for consumers
My suggestion is to make sure that your neck is clean and dry before use. If you have recently showered wait just a bit to let your skin fully dry. The pads stick better to dry skin. You can use the pads longer if you can sit with slight pressure on it from something like a couch back. I highly recommend that you update your operating system before installing the app.
